Honestly, if you asked me, I’d say that Porters have a sweeter and lighter “mouth feel” while Stouts have a more roasted and “dry” flavor. I think of a lot of the porters that I like and it isn’t that I would say they are “bitter”, but compared to a lot of stouts, I think that is a fair assessment.
The lager is thinner and more smooth than the other two which are a little thicker in body and perception. Dark American Lager has been rolled into Style 2C International Dark Lager. Dark lagers are somewhat of an enigma to most people. These people, and there are many out there, have a mental block against dark beers.
